It’s a well known fact that today’s savvy homebuyers use the internet when searching for a new home.  This makes an MLS listing an invaluable tool. What is not as well known, and not often mentioned by agents, is the fact that many of the services provided by so-called “full service” agents can easily be done by homeowners themselves.  For instance, a homeowner can give a potential buyer a tour of the home.  And really, how much expertise does it take to hold an open house?

WE’RE NOT FOR EVERYBODY

As good as we think we are, we’ll be the first to admit that we’re not for everybody.  Let’s face it, some people don’t want the hassle of dealing with buyers.  These folks are more than happy to pay whatever it costs to have someone come in and do all the work.  These folks want an agent that’s available at their beck and call to do everything.   For this reason, there will always be full service agents and they will always charge a lot of money for their service.  Today that charge is typically 6% of the selling price of the home, which is split between the seller’s agent and the buyer’s agent.  For a $500,000 home, that’s $30,000 in commissions paid by the seller.
