Seattle-Bellevue Home Buyer & Seller Seminars – 2015 Schedule

March 25th, 2015 by Claire

walaw-home-buyer-seminarsWaLaw Realty has historically conducted four to six free home buying & selling workshops per year.  These classes typically run in the evening from 6 pm to 8 pm at our office in Lower Queen Anne and we’re considering a lunch time class.

We provide pizza, beer and soda and give buyers and sellers an opportunity to hear from an experienced real estate attorney and broker on topics like these:

  • State of the local real estate market (it’s not all bidding wars even if that’s what it feels like)
  • Top 10 Things Home Buyers should Know to protect themselves
  • Advice for Home Sellers to sell their home quickly, for the best price, and avoid future liability.

We plan to host at least a few classes in 2015 and would like to know if folks would be interested in a lunch time class from noon to 2 pm?  Folks will be welcome to drop in and stay for as long as they like and then pop out.

Let us know by email (marc@walawrealty.com) or in the comments if the lunch hour is a good option for you or if you prefer the usual evening class.

WaLaw’s Best of Seattle Halloween

For some of us, Halloween sets off each year’s extended holiday extravaganza. It is the beginning of the season that makes being a home owner and part of a community amazing fun. While Thanksgiving and Christmas each have their own virtues, Seattle neighborhoods know how to keep Halloween in the running for the season’s top spot. Here is WaLaw’s list of Seattle’s “don’t miss” Halloween activities to help you kick this festive time of year off right:

  1. Ghost Someone!

When: Anytime
Where: Anywhere

This is a great way to boost Halloween spirit in your neighborhood. You just need a few bags of candy and 30 minutes. Just sneak up to a neighbor’s house (ninja outfit optional), drop the candy with a copy of a paper ghost and instructions on how the recipient is to carry on the game, knock on the door and run. Find the instructions and everything you need at the link above.

  1. Join the Halloween Pub Crawl

When: October 25th
Where: Downtown

A free event with costumes, games and booze! Enough said.

  1. Run Scared

When: October 26th
Where: Seward Park

Perhaps not for those who attend the pub crawl the night before, this 5K run, 4K walk with a free kids dash benefits the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. You can run in your costume and get a free beanie or trucker hat to boot.

  1. Scale Capitol Hill for Hilloween

When: October 25th, 12-7 p.m.
Where: Capitol Hill- Cal Anderson Park & Broadway

This event has it all – musical performances, costume parade, carnival games and a magic show, trick-or-treating and it’s free!

  1. Trick-or-Treat Like a Pro on Halloween Night:

These are a few local favorites that provide endless candy and fun.

  •  University Village 2632 N.E. University Village St. Seattle, Wa 98105 When: Oct. 31, 2014 from 4 p.m.-6 p.m.
  •  Admiral District California Ave. S.W. & S.W. Admiral Seattle, Wa 98116 When: Oct. 31, 2014 from 3 p.m.–6 p.m.
  •  Magnolia Village W. McGraw St. Seattle, Wa 98199 When: Oct. 31, 2014 from 4 p.m.-6 p.m.
  • Upper Queen Anne Ave. From McGraw St. to Galer St. Seattle, Wa 98199 When: Oct. 31, 2014 from 3 p.m.-6 p.m.
  1. Buy a Creepy Manor

If you don’t own a home just yet, let us help you buy this one.

April 13th, 2012 by Marc

Home Buying Seminars Popular with First Time Home Buyers

Based on the incredible response to our “First Time Home Buyer” class — and the less-than-incredible response to our other two classes — we’ve decided to tailor the last two classes for first time homebuyers.  So if you’re a first time homebuyer, come learn about the process, how to protect yourself, and how you can save a bunch of money.  Register now for our next class on May 16.  We hope to see you!

Free Home Buyer Seminar – March 21

What Every First Time Home Buyer Should Know

WaLaw Realty Continues Its Spring Series of Free Homebuyer Classes on March 21

WaLaw’s next free class for home buyers — sellers welcome too! — is Wednesday March 21.  Once again we’ll have free pizza and beverages (both kinds) so we can stay focused on the topic at hand rather than our grumbling tummies.  The class will again take place at our office in Lower Queen Anne.

Seminar for First-Time Home Buyers

This month’s topic: What every first time home buyer should know before buying a house.  We’ll talk about the buying process from start (getting pre-qualified for a loan) to finish (turning YOUR keys to open YOUR door), including “traps” for the unwary.  For example, did you know that the IRS requires the buyer to determine whether the seller is a foreigner and thus subject to taxation?  And if the seller IS a foreigner, the law requires the BUYER to withhold 10% of the sale price and to forward those funds to the IRS?  Learn about this legal obligation that most buyers (and almost all agents) do not appreciate.

As always, we’ll make sure everyone’s questions are answered before the night is over.  So come meet Marc and learn about the homebuying — and selling — process.  Reservations appreciated but not required.  We hope to see you!!

Our First Free Homebuyer Class is Feb 15

February 2nd, 2012 by Marc

If you’re thinking of buying a home in 2012, stop by our first Free Homebuyer Class of the year at our brand new office in Lower Queen Anne!  We’ll have our “WaLaw refreshments” on hand (pizza and beer/soda) and we’ll be discussing the current state of the Seattle housing market.  Thinking of selling?  You’ll benefit as well.

We’ll also be discussing our unique business model in the real estate industry and how you can save thousands of dollars by using our flat rate real estate brokerage services.  Attendance is free, and reservations are appreciated but not required.  We hope to see you!

Free Home Buyer Seminars for 2012:

Each class will have a unique theme, although every class will be driven primarily by the interests and questions of the attendees.  We like talking — we hate lecturing!  So even if you think you know everything there is to know about a particular theme, we’re confident you’ll still be glad you came.  Our schedule:

February 15: The State of the Market  This was a great class where we shared our insight and opinions on the current and future state of the local housing market.

March 21: What Every First Time Home Buyer Should Know  What are the important steps in the process?  Where do I start?  How can I save a ton of money?  And any other question you might have….  THIS CLASS IS SOLD OUT  Feel free to stop by, but we can’t guarantee a seat.

April 18: Is the Seller Responsible?  This home buying workshop will also benefit sellers who want to learn more about their potential exposure to a buyer after closing.

May 16: Traps for the Unwary First Time Home Buyer  While not exactly “traps” there are certain legal issues that could be a very unpleasant surprise to a naive buyer.  Learn about them so you can avoid them.  Plus, we’ll address other common issues relating to the homebuying experience, and we’ll make sure all your questions are answered.

June 20: Financing for the First Time Home Buyer: Where to Get It, What Happens if It Fails  Most everyone needs to borrow money to buy a home.  Come to this home buying class to learn about some of the ins and outs of the financing process and how the contract can protect you if your financing fails.  Plus we’ll address other issues that might surprise a first time home buyer, and we’ll make sure all your questions are answered.  REGISTER AND GET DIRECTIONS TO OUR JUNE 20 HOME BUYER CLASS  »
